In Vietnamese culture, the image of the Nghe is a "pure Vietnamese" symbol originating from the Phat Su (or lion in Buddhist culture) of India symbolizing courage, versatility, and wisdom, has power like the lord of all creatures.

Nghe in dragon form, also known as Nghe Chau, stands upright and solemn, facing inwards towards the object of worship (while Nghe in dog form faces outward). Appears in temples and worship areas, has the function of watching and protecting the sacred.

The painting is drawn in the spirit of the Nghe couple flanking each other as a "specialty" of Vietnamese people expressing the spirit of mutual love.
