In Vietnamese folk culture, foxes have appeared since the country's founding in the early days. Anecdotes about foxes or Ho Tien (fox becoming a leprechaun) are no longer strange to people.
In some aspects, Ho Tien is the patron god of villagers who reclaim land and establish a worshiping temple (Ham Trung temple, Da Nang). Also in another anecdote, the fox fairy contributed to supporting Tran Dynasty soldiers against foreign invaders. Magic or witchcraft was not a strange thing at that time.
The painting of the Ho Tien is based on the legend of the nine-tailed fox, which always appears next to the true dragon (specifically the Tran Dynasty) as a powerful arm in war and in establishing the country, such as the folk saying:
Which religion is better than the religion of husband and wife?
Hand in hand, cheek next to each other, life and death are together.
