The Lotus has a special role and position in both spirituality and culture of the Vietnamese people. Appearing in architecture and sculpture from the Dinh - Early Le period, the lotus has occupied an important position in most decorative details.
The Lotus painting recreates the image of a lotus flower in the Ly - Tran dynasties (combining motifs of leaves, chrysanthemums and dancing dancers are all familiar motifs in decoration of this period) facing the light source to express the spirit of ascension and respects the beauty of the state religion at that time - Buddhism.
